Over 40 years ago, Brakke-Schafnitz Insurance Brokers and Saddleback Valley Insurance Centers were born with a vision to provide comprehensive insurance solutions to individuals and businesses. The goal was to promote the idea that while the company’s name is new, its commitment to customers and quality remains unchanged. LJG’s new mobile site launched last year. LJG’s Creative Director, Gina Von der Kret, Lead Developer, Ben Brock and Interactive Designer, Cole Welty, worked closely together to identify which areas of the full LJG site would most likely be accessed by smartphones. A completely redesigned user interface and navigational architecture was conceived. Graphics were kept to a minimum and used only to help drive the visitor to the content areas they valued. Fast downloads, sizing, and rewriting copy to fit this new platform took place as a part of the strategy phase.

The best news–creating a mobile-friendly version of your site need not be expensive. The simplicity drives out the costs to develop. Strategy is key. Visit LJG at http://m.ljg.com/

Mobile Marketing is Growing Faster Than the Internet Ever Did. Shouldn’t You Take Advantage?

January 7th, 2010 by admin

By 2013 a person’s first experience with the internet will be on a mobile device. And with anywhere from 4 to 4.5 billion mobile phone users, you’re missing a prime opportunity if you’re not using the mobile Web to strengthen relationships with your customers.

  • The global mobile advertising market will be valued at over $16 billion by 2011
  • Today there are over 4.5 billion cell phone subscribers worldwide versus 1 billion in 2002.. There will be an estimated 5.8 billion mobile subscribers worldwide by 2013
  • Around the world, more people use their cell phones to access the Internet than PCs
  • This year an estimated 2.3 Trillion text messages will be sent and delivered globally
  • 50 million smartphones were sold in the second quarter of 2009 alone
  • Immediate, anytime/anywhere access is the key draw to mobile Internet users
  • More Internet enabled mobile devices will be sold this year than PCs and Laptops combined
  • The mobile divide among consumers is closing rapidly as more adopt smartphones. Now the more relevant gap that persists is the one between marketers and consumers.
  • To succeed in mobile, marketers will need to provide utility, relevance, and entertainment.

El Camino Hospital Employs Interactive 3D Wayfinder Kiosks

January 7th, 2010 by admin

“The new El Camino Hospital in Silicon Valley is the most technologically advanced in the world.”
Voted “Best of 2009” by Popular Science Magazine

LJG was commissioned to create and program 3D diagrammatic visuals for this state-of-the-art hospital’s wayfinding directory, accessible by department as well as meeting name and location. Featuring five floors, this interface located in several strategic locations within the hospital, directs visitors to their selected locations in an intuitive and graphically easy to understand format. Nice large color-coded buttons mean no searching through typical text indexes. Bright, colorful pathways and destination markers over semi-transparent “gel” 3D diagrams of each floor make it clear which path to take to their destination. There is also an interactive 2D campus map section providing wayfinding support to other buildings and facilities within the medical campus.

The back-end programming of this new directory features many innovative aspects including:

  • XML-based system: dynamically loaded path information means most cosmetic changes can be accomplished without rewriting any application code
  • Integrated with 3rd Party scheduling software to show the locations of meetings (updated daily)
  • An administration console allows end-users to change text content of menus and end-points
  • Developed in Actionscript 3, deployed on a “shell-less” Windows XP environment (Operating System was branded to look like ECH proprietary), contains a “watch-dog” system written in Python to reboot application if it ever encounters any critical errors

Tremendous Public Response to LJG Campaign

January 1st, 2010 by admin

The Irvine Co. sold 70 homes in its new Woodbury and Woodbury East development before the project’s grand opening Saturday – indicating that the demand for new homes in Orange County exceeds expectations, said Dan Young, a company president. Before the first person walked through a new model home at 10a.m., the Irvine Co. and its six building partners had sold all but one of the 71 “phase one” units to prequalified buyers for a total of $45 million.

“The response has been tremendous,” Young said. Because of the success, an additional 56 homes were put on the market Saturday. Altogether, 685 units will go on sale in the new Woodbury and Woodbury East development.

More than 2,000 people visited within the first three hours, and some potential buyers met with Realtors and signed housing contracts. Shawn and Su Suh reserved a three-bedroom home in the Sonoma neighborhood. With their 7-month-old child in tow, the Suhs purchased a TRI Pointe-built home after the initial buyer backed out. “Everything just fell into place,” said Shawn Suh; the family lives in a condo in Irvine. “We needed more space; this isn’t too big or too small, and the price fits the market more than some of the other houses we’ve looked at.”

The 25 models and designs in the 2010 New Home Collection range from $300,000 townhomes to $900,000 single-family houses. “We’ve always been interested in consumer input, but for this project, we spent more on consumer research than ever before,” Young said. Research showed that people want more living and storage space. The builders responded, also adding windows and outside areas, including so-called California rooms – a roofed patio, to take advantage of natural light and warmth.

“It’s amazing to just sit in one of these homes for a couple hours and listen to the people as they walk through,” said Tom Mitchell, president of TRI Pointe, one of the Irvine Co.’s partner builders. “They point to parts of the house and (the) design, and the response is exactly what the research says.”

LJG Creates New Touchscreen Sales Kiosks

January 1st, 2010 by admin

LJG was asked to design and develop the interactive sales kiosk application to help pre-sell homes within each of three neighborhoods. As a critical part of the pre-sell process for homes still “under-construction,” we created 3D renderings of key livings spaces of seven different floor plans.

The user interface was the most intuitive we’ve ever created in 17 years of building interactive kiosks. Developed using web-based applications, visitors are able to click on interactive site plans and floor plans to reveal all of the key information and 3D imagery concerning the homes of their dreams.

Inspiration! but does it float

December 21st, 2009 by admin

Running in the same vein as one our favorite image book marking sites ffffound, but does it float takes the concept to an entirely new level. Lifting images from some of the most interesting, obscure and unique sites from around the web focusing on architecture, generative art, collage, drawing, typography, sculpture and photography, the site’s curators Folkert Gorter and Atley G. Kasky have an uncanny ability for pairing their findings with a thought provoking quote or statement that seamlessly tie together the visuals that follow.

LJG Launches New Website for Major Residential Developer

March 27th, 2009 by admin

As a key part of LJG’s ongoing work to help expand its client’s online presence, there was a desire to stay ahead of technological advancements, branding and digital marketing opportunities afforded online and via mobile and social networking. LJG was retained to redesign the client’s website www.villagesofirvine.com.

We conducted a complete review of the site and made recommendations on ways to improve the company’s overall online sales effectiveness and create a more intuitive and functional site for the group. The design of a series of brief, streaming videos on the homepage helped to underscore the community brand messages. The new website is a useful tool for residents, prospects, and the community in general.

The New Gallup.com Inspires and Captivates LJG

March 27th, 2009 by admin

Gallup’s most visible public portal and a trusted resource that houses data about the world we live in, was leveraged to garner more attention for the company’s consulting-based services. Gallup differs from many of its competitors precisely because it has some of the world’s most compelling research; its scientific data is at the core of Gallup.com and why visitors return regularly.

The redesign of the site coincided with a global rebranding effort that provided the opportunity to bring all Gallup sites under a single umbrella and brand identity. Although most people are familiar with the Gallup Poll, there is some confusion about the other things Gallup does. This site bridges that knowledge gap by communicating about the other portions of the business: Gallup Consulting (advisory), Gallup University (teaching) and Gallup Press (publishing).

The navigation interface is based on the idea of grouping corporate offerings and data into two main categories: Politics & Government and Economics & Management. The solution leverages visitor familiarity with the poll and connects that traffic to the remainder of the site and Gallup’s other services. One of the site’s overarching successes is the visual unity across these disparate business units; from page to page, the interface is consistent and intuitive and visitors are never left wondering where they are or how they got there.

Carefully organized content coupled with a sleek, cohesive design demonstrates both the strength of the brand and the seriousness with which Gallup approaches unbiased information-gathering, analysis and consultation. But, by far, one of the most satisfying content features is the daily ticker-tape update about the topics currently on the minds of many (if not most) Americans.

  • The site has five main media elements: text, photography, videos, static graphs, and interactive graphs. A CMS allows flexibility within stories and on the home page and allows editors to quickly update the home page to stay ahead of competitors.
  • More than one year’s worth of planning, meeting and strategy went into the redesign of gallup.com. From strategy to launch development time was ten months.
  • Google Analytics attributes 31,000,000 visits since the launch a year ago.
